Overview

About this product

Semax is a synthetic seven-residue peptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro). It is based on the ACTH(4-7) fragment, extended with Pro-Gly-Pro for stability, and it has no hormonal activity of its own in the models where it has been tested. The literature examines it in cell and rodent models of neurotrophic factor expression and neuronal signalling. It shares its stabilising Pro-Gly-Pro tail with Selank, which makes the pair a natural comparison in peptide-stability work. Supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. What the research shows A 2006 rat study reported that a single administration of semax raised hippocampal BDNF protein by up to 1.4-fold and trkB tyrosine phosphorylation by 1.6-fold. A 2014 genome-wide study in rats with permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion found that semax mainly altered the expression of immune-related genes, and changed 24 vascular-system genes at 3 hours and 12 at 24 hours. A 2018 clinical study, published in Russian, followed 110 patients after ischaemic stroke divided into subgroups with and without semax and reported higher plasma BDNF levels with semax; its abstract does not describe randomisation or blinding. Counted on PubMed on 2026-10-20. A score shows how much published research covers an area: 1 for fewer than 5 papers, 2 under 20, 3 under 100, 4 under 500 and 5 from 500, plus half a point when the area includes randomised controlled trials and a full point from 10 of them (5 at most). It measures the amount of research, not an effect. Each count links to its PubMed search.
