About this product
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of the full 44-amino-acid growth hormone-releasing hormone, with a trans-3-hexenoyl group added at the N-terminus. The modification protects the peptide from breakdown by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 while keeping its affinity for the GHRH receptor. Laboratories use it in GHRH receptor binding and signalling studies, and as a comparator for shorter analogues such as CJC-1295. Supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. What the research shows The trials cited here were randomised and in people with HIV. In a 2007 trial, 412 patients with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation were randomised to tesamorelin or placebo for 26 weeks; visceral adipose tissue decreased by 15.2% with tesamorelin and increased by 5.0% with placebo, and IGF-I rose by 81.0% with tesamorelin. A 2019 double-blind trial of 61 people with HIV and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease reported a greater reduction in hepatic fat fraction with tesamorelin than with placebo over 12 months, an absolute effect size of -4.1%, with no difference in fasting glucose or glycated haemoglobin.
