BPC-157 research in 2026: what the systematic reviews found

Most of what is written about BPC-157 online comes from forums and sellers. Two systematic reviews published in 2025 and 2026 counted the actual studies, and both reach the same plain conclusion: almost all BPC-157 research is in animals, and the human evidence is very thin.
What BPC-157 is
A synthetic fifteen-residue peptide, a fragment of a larger gastric protein sequence described in the 1990s. Our explainer, what is BPC-157, covers the sequence and its naming, and BPC-157 and the Zagreb literature covers where the research began.
Review 1: Vasireddi and colleagues, 2025
The authors searched PubMed, Cochrane and Embase to June 2024 and found 544 articles. After screening, 36 studies met their criteria: 35 preclinical studies and 1 clinical study. They note that BPC-157 lacks US Food and Drug Administration approval and is banned in professional sports (HSS Journal, 2025).
Review 2: Poolton and colleagues, 2026
A registered review (PROSPERO) of human studies only, searched to June 2026. Three studies met the criteria, with 30 participants in total. The reviewers rated all three as poor methodological quality and the overall certainty of evidence as very low, and concluded that BPC-157 should not be used clinically outside ethically approved, regulated trials (Acta Orthopaedica Belgica, 2026).
What this means for a reader
The large body of BPC-157 literature is cell and animal research. Reviews of that literature are the right place to start before designing a study, and our guide to evaluating a peptide study explains why study type matters.
Status in Canada
Health Canada has not authorized BPC-157, and names it in its April 2026 advisory on peptides bought online.
Ordering BPC-157 for laboratory research
Peptune supplies BPC-157 in the BPC-157 + TB-500 vial as a lyophilized reference material for in vitro and analytical work, with the batch certificate on the product page. Orders ship across Canada by tracked mail: $20 or $25 depending on the province, free on orders of $150 or more. Payment is by Interac e-Transfer or crypto.
